We often get asked about the pronounciation and meaning of our name. Funambol (pronounced Fu-NAHM-bol, click here to hear it pronounced) is derived from the Latin words funis (rope) and ambulare (walking), meaning a tightrope walker. Just as a tightrope walker must be strong, brave, disciplined and nimble, Funambol continuously balances the needs of our open source community and our commercial customers.
Started in 2001 as the Sync4j open source project, Funambol has grown to be the leading mobile open source project in the world, with more than three million downloads and used by leading mobile operators, device manufacturers, portals, service providers, software companies and system integrators.
