Funambol's vision is to make it easy to sync billions of mobile phones, computers, tablets and connected devices with the systems and websites people use everyday via the cloud. We uniquely do this using an open source approach that provides the greatest degree of device compatibility as well as flexibility and control. We invite you to explore our website and our open source community forge to learn more about our software.
We often get asked about the pronounciation and meaning of our name. Funambol (pronounced Fu-NAHM-bol, click here to hear it pronounced) is derived from the Latin words funis (rope) and ambulare (walking), meaning tightrope walker, which is represented by our company logo. Just as a tightrope walker must be strong, fearless, disciplined and nimble, Funambol continuously balances the needs of our commercial customers and open source community.
Started in 2001 as the Sync4j open source project with the goal of syncing any data with any mobile device, Funambol has grown to become the leading mobile open source project in the world, with millions of downloads. Our commercial software is used by many of the leading companies in the mobile industry, including carriers, device manufacturers, portals, communication service providers, software companies and telco system integrators.
