Funambol CEO on List of Technology’s Best Entrepreneurs

American Venture Magazine names Fabrizio Capobianco to its 2007 “40 Under 40”

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., January 16, 2007 — Funambol, the mobile open source company, today announced that the editors of American Venture Magazine have named CEO Fabrizio Capobianco to its list of the top 40 technology executives, venture capitalists, inventors and philanthropists under the age of 40 who are driving new growth in the industry. Capobianco was recognized for his vision to put mobile email and other mobile data services on commodity phones by tapping a global community of developers.

Capobianco is joined by other technology heavyweights from IBM Venture Capital Group, Napster, Motorola and Hyperic, among others.

“Capobianco this year brought a five-year community vision for consumer mobile email to the commercial market,” noted the editors of American Venture Magazine in their profile of the Funambol CEO. “Capobianco’s vision of a technology that would spur the adoption of mobile email and increase the usage of other mobile applications quickly spread — with more than 700,000 downloads of the software by August.”

In 2006, Capobianco lead the introduction of Funambol, the first open source, open standards push email for carriers. Capobianco’s vision is to put mobile email and other mobile data services on commodity phones, and with the number of devices on the market expected to exceed one billion in 2007 and consumer expectations on the rise, that vision is about to be realized.

Capobianco has recently received additional accolades from FeirceWireless readers, who voted his blog among the 20 best in the wireless industry, and from the readers of Mobile Village for being a consumer mobile email visionary.

Capobianco is a serial entrepreneur and veteran executive from Reuters and Tibco. He founded the first Italian Web company, Internet Graffiti, and Stigma Online, developer of an information portal product with customers that included Kraft, Novartis, Italian Broadcasting Television and the Italian Stock Exchange. A finance executive at Tibco when the division was acquired by Reuters, Capobianco subsequently led the worldwide presales, deployment and support of Reuters Mercury, a leading software solution for online trading. Capobianco has taught courses on wireless and mBusiness strategies at the University of Pavia in Italy, where he also received his Ph.D. in computer science.
