FOSTER CITY, Calif., April 4, 2012 -- Funambol, the leading provider of white-label personal cloud solutions for mobile providers, today announced the appointment of David Shimoni as Executive Vice President, Global Sales. In this role, David will be working with mobile carriers, device makers and Internet portals to help them bring their own branded digital locker service to market based on Funambol OneMediaHub. David brings more than 20 years of successful sales leadership to Funambol, including work experience at InfoGin, Networks in Motion (NIM), Mobixell Networks and Comverse.
"We are very pleased to have David Shimoni join Funambol and help us expand Funambol's global sales activities," said Amit Chawla, Funambol CEO. "David's extensive experience of bringing highly innovative services to major mobile companies will significantly increase our personal cloud footprint."
David Shimoni has 20+ years of experience in sales and marketing of value-added solutions, applications and infrastructure to service providers. Most recently, he was EVP, Worldwide Sales and Marketing at InfoGin, a leading provider of mobile browsing solutions. Prior to that, David was SVP, Worldwide Sales at Networks in Motion, a leading provider of location based services, where he led the company through hyperbolic growth, leading to the successful acquisition of the company. Before joining NIM, David was President at Mobixell Networks, a leading provider of mobile broadband solutions, and VP, North America Sales at Comverse, a leading provider of telecom value-added services, where he helped grow the company's business from a negligible position to over $150M of sales. David holds an MBA degree from Columbia and a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University.
"I am thrilled to join a company at the forefront of providing white-label personal cloud solutions. The market for these services is experiencing tremendous growth. Mobile and Internet players are increasingly planning to offer these services to their subscribers, to reduce churn and generate revenue," said David Shimoni, Funambol Executive Vice President, Global Sales.
David joins Funambol as the personal cloud market is reaching its tipping point as major new digital locker services are now available and used by hundreds of millions of people. Gartner recently predicted that the personal cloud would replace the personal computer by 2014 as the center of users' digital lives. Funambol has seen a major spike in its business, with new orders from many large companies in mobile, especially operators, device makers and Internet portals. These customers are introducing their own branded digital locker service before users become accustomed to storing their mobile content elsewhere. Funambol's momentum has also been fueled by the success of its recent OneMediaHub product introduction, rated 4 of 5 stars by PC World, and by traction with partners such as the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC), which is comprised of 60 of the largest operators in the world with three billion users.
