Sync Diverse Data and Content via the Cloud
OneMediaHub syncs several types of data and content across mobile devices via the cloud out-of-the-box, including:
- Personal information management (PIM) data such as contacts (address books) and calendar (agenda)
- Rich media e.g. pictures, videos and music; and
- Files of virtually any type, including pdfs, Office files and other documents
OneMediaHub uses a sophisticated cloud sync engine that is designed to sync any data with any device. OneMediaHub solutions deployed by Funambol customers have been extended to sync additional items such as email, SMS messages and other data commonly found on mobile devices. In this regard, OneMediaHub makes it possible to sync virtually any data with any device.
Note that not all data and content can be synced on all devices. This may be due to device limitations that prevent some data from being accessed. In general though, Funambol strives to sync the same data and content across smartphones, tablets, computers and other mobile devices.
OneMediaHub uses effective and efficient sync approaches that are optimized for mobile. Text-based data such as contacts and calendars use the OMA DS (aka SyncML) protocol, as this is a time-tested, proven mobile method. Non-text objects such as pictures, videos and binary files do not use OMA DS, as that would be inefficient, but employ other industry standard methods.
OneMediaHub automatically pushes changes of data where possible across devices, eliminating the need to manually sync. This is also not always possible, again due to limitations of some devices and networks, but OneMediaHub offers flexibility to accommodate a wide range of situations to ensure that diverse data and content can be synced in the best possible fashion.
